Links - Tourism
Much of the attraction of Paarl is to be found in the fact that it has the
commercial structure of a small city without sacrificing its country atmosphere.
Not in vain is Paarl termed the agricultural capital of the Boland. Situated
in the fruitful and water rich Berg River Valley, Paarl has a well established
industrial sector which relies heavily on industries supplying the needs of
agriculture, while the Western Cape Agricultural Union has also established
its head office at Paarl.
A well developed infrastructure for commercial and industrial development has
long been established. The National road from Cape Town to Johannesburg runs
past Paarl, as does the main railway line to the North. Other plus factors are
the close proximity of Cape Town itself, Cape Town International Airport, from
which air freight can be dispatched and Table Bay Harbour with its excellent
export facilities.

Zomerlust
|
|
Zomerlust has close ties with the history of the
Paarl Rock Brandy Cellar, since the latter was founded by Abraham
Pieter de Villiers in 1856. The original Paarl Wine and Brandy
Company was situated across the road from the Zomerlust guest
house and legend has it that an underground pipe linked the maturation
casks in the cellar to a tap, where guests were entertained in
grand style. Today this area has been restored into a cosy pub,
Die Kraan. Accustomed to entertaining in grand style,
the family could offer their own finely matured connoisseur brandy
to their guest simply at the turn of a tap!
