| Building contractors, J van der Sluys of Paarl, have teamed up with the Carstens brothers from the same town to launch a security estate development to be named “Vrede” in Sanddrift Street, opposite the Paarl Police College on one of the Carstens farms.
The name Vrede is derived from the farm on which the Police College is situated today. This was owned by the Carstens brothers’ grandfather.
The site, one of the more prestigious in Paarl, is near Paarl Gymnasium High School and the WA Joubert Primary School. Homes will have views across nearby vineyards and the Drakenstein mountains as well as to the west taking in Paarl mountain.
Announcing the new development there was said 80 erven were being offered in size from 240m2 to 500m2 and selling from R465 000 to R800 000. Architectural guidelines is new Cape Vernacular style.
The guidelines allow for single and double storey detached and semi-detached homes and it will be possible to build on 40% to 50% of the plot size. Maximum bulk can be up to 75%, if the buyers opt for a double storey. This means that on a 240m2 plot a house with up to 180m2 can be built and many of the homes will have three bedrooms.
